When you are looking at something what is it that you actually see? How do you perceive a locality to be a part of a globality? How is the “here and now” related to the “there and then” of the world?
Feinkost is pleased to announce that starting September 30th we are open for business. We are very happy to inaugurate the gallery program with a solo exhibition of work by Luchezar Boyadjiev. This will be the artist’s first solo exhibition in a commercial gallery in Berlin. In his work, Boyadjiev is first and foremost an astute analyst of social change, cultural developments and the politics of visuality within public space across the globe. His artistic statement suggests that there is an aesthetics of globalization and its categories are detected in the packaging of local urban contexts. His work uses cities as case studies much like that of an urban planner, a demographer or an anthropologist, stressing the agenda of visual culture as it transforms in the face of paradigm shifts of economics and ideologies. Several aspects of his approach and analysis are on view in this exhibition; each series of photographs, photo-collages and installations pulls apart the way we read the optical coding of the city and assimilate or reject its messages.
Where is Berlin in relation to Mecca? What happens when advertising, architecture and urban space merge to become one and the same? Who can be sure that our monuments are for us or forever? These questions and more are addressed from September 30th until November 14th.
